A new variant of SARS-CoV-2 (B.1.1.529) has been discovered in South Africa and several other countries. From 12.00 midnight on 28 November 2021, Russia restricted entry for foreign citizens of the Republic of South Africa, the Republic of Botswana, the Kingdom of Lesotho, the Republic of Namibia, the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Republic of Mozambique, the Republic of Madagascar, the Kingdom of Eswatini, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as well as for foreign citizens who have been in these territories within the last 10 days.

From November 28, 2021, the issuance of visas to ALL foreign citizens has been suspended, including the persons specified in clause 2 of the Governmental Decree of the Russian Federation of March 16, 2020 N 635-R, as well as persons on whom individual decisions of the Emergency Response Centre for preventing the import and spread of the novel coronavirus in Russia were made before November 28, 2021.

Entry on valid visas or visa-free agreements for ALL citizens living in the Republic of South Africa, the Republic of Botswana, the Kingdom of Lesotho, the Republic of Namibia, the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Republic of Mozambique, the Republic of Madagascar, the Kingdom of Eswatini, the United Republic of Tanzania, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region temporarily restricted.

Lifting of these restrictions depends on the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the Russian Federation and in the world.

Citizens of the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Africa are, by mutual agreement of the respective Governments, exempt from visa requirements for a period not exceeding ninety (90) days for holiday and business visits.
