Vice-governor of St. Petersburg Vladimir Kirillov visits Cape Town
A delegation of the Administration of St. Petersburg headed by Vice-Governor Vladimir Kirillov visited Cape Town from August 30 till September 1.
On August 31, the representatives of St. Petersburg had a meeting with the Executive Deputy Mayor of Cape Town Ian Neilson. The discussion concentrated on further development of cultural and humanitarian ties between the two cities within the framework of celebrating the 15th anniversary of the sister-city relationship. “The Cooperation Agreement between the Administration St. Petersburg (Russian Federation) and the Cape Town City Council (Republic of South Africa)” was signed in 2001.
Members of the delegation also attended an official reception on the occasion of the Russian bid to host the “International Geological Congress (IGC)” in 2024. Welcoming remarks were made by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, Head of the Federal Agency on Mineral Resources Evgeny Kiselev, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Vladimir Kirillov, Director General of the “A.P. Karpinsky Russian Geological Research Institute (VSEGEI)” Oleg Petrov and Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of South Africa HE Mikhail Petrakov. Participants of the IGC as well as representatives of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Cape Town were present at the event.
An award-winning instrumental ensemble “ESSe-Quintet” played traditional Russian instruments to entertain the assembled guests.
