Russian research vessel "Admiral Vladimirsky" in Cape Town

On January 5, 2016, the oceanographic research vessel "Admiral Vladimirsky" arrived at the port of Cape Town as part of its cruise to the coast of Antarctica, which began on November 6, 2015, in Kronstadt.

The main purpose of its five-day stay was to replenish supplies and give the crew some rest. The Russian sailors enjoyed an opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful places in South Africa – the Cape of Good Hope.

On December 8, 2015, the Consul General of Russia in Cape Town R. Ambarov visited the vessel to meet with head of the expedition Dmitry Puntus and other officers. Russia’s considerable scientific contribution to the exploration of the Antarctic and the prospects of further research in this field formed a major part of the discussion. The staff of the Consulate General were welcomed with some tea and a tour of the ship was conducted for them.

After the restocking, "Admiral Vladimir" proceeded with its cruise to Antarctica.
