The Russian ships under the charge of Commander of the Russian Navy Task Group Captain (N) S. Varik started their long voyage on November 15, 2016. During the first part, their task was to ensure the sustainability of the aircraft carrier group of the Northern Fleet led by the heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser “Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov” as part of the military operation off the coast of Syria.
From 9 to 15 February the ships participated in the international naval exercises "Aman-2017" which took place in the Arabian Sea and at the coastal base of the Navy of Pakistan.
In the course of the mission, the crew of “Severomorsk” has performed various interior exercises - from survivability during a voyage and anchorage to air and anti-submarine defense. In the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean, they successfully fulfilled the task of locating foreign submarines by using deck aviation.
